Genevieve Rattray

Genevieve Rattray serves as Director of Sustainability and Advocacy for the Belle Isle Conservancy, the nonprofit organization supporting Detroit’s 982-acre island park on the Detroit River; an international waterway shared by the US and Canada.

Passionate about circular economy and experienced in innovative leadership, Genevieve offers creativity in her approach to program design and systems of change. She designed Belle Isle Park’s award-winning anti-litter campaign, Keep Belle Isle Beautiful. Through this campaign, Genevieve mobilizes individuals, communities, and corporations to act locally, while thinking globally, and overall connects Detroit and the Great Lakes region to the worldwide concern of single-use plastic and litter pollution.

Genevieve is a founding member and serves as chair of the Detroit River Coalition. She is an educator, having enthusiastically served as an instructor in the School of Social Work at Wayne State University, educating graduate students on Human Behavior in the Social Environment, Diversity in a Multicultural Society, and Social Work Practice with Micro, Mezzo, and Macro Systems. Genevieve has a Master of Social Work degree with a macro concentration in Innovation in Community, Policy, and Leadership and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She values the intersection of social and environmental justice, science, and humanities.
